Quantum algorithms are programs that can be run as quantum circuits in a quantum computer. Running useful quantum circuits on supercomputers is exponentially difficult, which gives a significant advantage to quantum computers.

Many industrial optimization problems become mathematically difficult as the number of variables and constraints grows.
